A “Super Bug” Was Not An Attraction Listed in the New Delhi Tour Guide

On a whim, my wife and I decided to check on plane fare to India. We are both chiropractors and we seldom feel comfortable leaving our chiropractic clinic for too long. But, we’ve both wanted to go to India, especially New Delhi, for quite some time, and since the warring factions in the area and surrounding countries seemed to have temporarily suspended fighting one another, if not actively disliking each other, it seemed like a good time to see the country. But, to our dismay, another enemy was lurking in open water pools, water from overflowing sewage and even a couple of drinking water samples. This potential threat to our health and longevity is a “super bug”! And it sounds even worse when identified by name: The NDM-1 gene.

Though the health ministry declared today that there are no “significant” findings that the bacteria is harmful to one’s health, and a spokesman for the Indian Council of Medical Research stated that it is “totally unscientific” to target New Delhi as the same bacteria is present all around the world, my wife and I have decided to visit the Grand Canyon!
